Ultraformer treatment in Melbourne

What can it treat?

Using micro-focused ultrasound energy, the Ultraformer is used for skin tightening and can address common age-related concerns:

  • Achieve eyebrow lift
  • Achieve jawline contouring, improve sagging jawline
  • Achieve jowl and neck lift
  • Achieve skin lifting and tightening on the face, neck and body
  • Treat fine lines and wrinkles including around the eyes (crow’s feet), forehead, upper lip, nose, nasolabial (smile lines) and neck area

How does it work?

HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) technology produces thermal energy from ultrasound waves. Ultraformer’s highly focused ultrasound energy heats targeted areas to the ideal temperature range to denature collagen, stimulating collagen remodelling and regeneration and facilitating tissue contraction resulting in a visible lift and tightening of the treated area. The Ultraformer uses patented elliptic transducers to deliver fast and consistent energy throughout the treatment for improved comfort and results. The treatment targets tissue at multiple depths including the deeper SMAS layer (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) which is responsible for the common age-related changes we see in the lower face resulting in sagging, heaviness and jowls. The SMAS also plays a significant role in providing facial elasticity and support and is the target area in a traditional, surgical facelift when rejuvenating the lower third of the face.

What should I expect?

Prior to treatment the skin is cleansed to remove makeup and creams and the area to be treated is marked out in sections to ensure best results and minimise discomfort. Much like an ultrasound used during pregnancy, a thin layer of clear gel is applied to the skin and the ultrasound handpiece is slowly moved over the area being treated for the required number of pulses. Skin is targeted at multiple depths. Starting with the deepest layer (the SMAS for “lift”) we then repeat the process at a medium depth (the dermis for “plump”), and again at a more superficial depth (epidermis for “wrinkle reduction”). The treatment is well tolerated with most people describing the sensation as a “pin prick” or “deep pinch” and this will vary depending on the depth that we are treating. You will notice we push the handpiece into the skin guiding upwards with firm pressure to ensure good conduction of the ultrasound energy. Our settings can be varied for improved comfort if required.

Downtime is minimal to none. You may experience mild erythema, or a pink glow post treatment. Occasionally, bruising may occur at the deeper depths although this is not common.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, best results are seen with 1-2 sessions, 3 months apart and yearly maintenance. Your expectations, potential results and expected downtime will be discussed with you in your consultation.
